Ad turrem

Tourves

Tourves, near Brignoles in the Var, is where the map's Ad turrem is placed, a rest station on the Via Aurelia between Cabasse and the country east of Aix. The medieval form of the name, Torrevez, and the distances both support the identification, though some preferred Saint-Maximin. Milestones of Nero were found at Tourves and on the way to Cabasse. The name means at the tower, and it is shared with another station on the map.
