Listen to the story
Ad Ioglandem means at the walnut tree, and like stations called at the apple tree, at the pear tree or at the fig tree, it probably grew out of an inn named after a tree by the road. It lay on a side road between Arezzo and Chiusi, perhaps at Ciggiano, and the list of places compiled in Ravenna gives in its place a Lugaria, a name that recalls the Roman festival of the sacred groves.
