Ad Flexum

Mosonmagyaróvár

Listen to the story

Ad Flexum is drawn as a plain station on the Danube road from Carnuntum to Arrabona, at Mosonmagyaróvár in Hungary. Later it became a garrison town, with a troop of Dalmatian horsemen and a unit of picked cavalry. The Greek geographer Ptolemy even places the Fourteenth Legion here, though whether he is right is disputed. The name means at the bend, and this is not the Ad Flexum in Italy.
