Valvata

Cáscina [1] · Fornacette [5]

Listen to the story

Valvata, which a list of places compiled in Ravenna calls Balbatum, was a station on the road up the Arno valley from Pisa to Florence, at Cascina or a little further on at Fornacette, where it crossed the road from Volterra to Lucca. At Fornacette a cemetery of the imperial age and a hoard of silver coins reaching down to the reign of Augustus have come to light.
