Where Portus Boeotorum lay is unknown today; the map places this harbour in its northern Balkan section. The parchment is torn and wrinkled at this spot, so only the first letter, a B, can be read with confidence, and perhaps a cluster of letters further on. Older copies read the whole name as the harbour of the Boeotians, the people of central Greece, while others saw only scattered letters, so that reading remains uncertain.
