River

Fl. Pyktos

Listen to the story

The river Pyktos flows across Crete on the Tabula, but the map never names it; its line reaches the sea between Cydonia and Aptera, and the name comes from scholars, who identify it with the Pyknus of the geographer Ptolemy. It rises in the White Mountains, the Leuci montes, and runs down to the coast. The copyist left it nameless even though there was ample room for a label, unlike the rivers drawn on either side of it.
