River
Fl. Lavinius
Samoggia [Pleiades] · Torrente Lavino [1]
Listen to the story
An unnamed stream on the Tabula is usually read as the Lavinius, today the Torrente Lavino west of Bologna, a small tributary of the Samoggia. The map draws it coming down from the Apennines alongside the Reno, crossing the Via Aemilia near the station of Forum Gallorum, then joining its neighbour just beyond the road and winding into the Po. The reading rests on the river's fame. According to the Greek historian Appian, Octavian and Mark Antony met on a small island in this river in 43 BC and founded the Second Triumvirate, although the exact spot has never been securely found.
