Arabia

Listen to the story

Arabia takes its place among the eastern provinces of the Roman world, the province Rome formed in AD 106 from the Nabataean kingdom. The map names eight of the nine provinces of the late Roman East: Cilicia, Cyprus, Coele Syria, Syria Phoenice, Syria Arabia, Palestine, Mesopotamia and Arabia itself. Only Commagene is missing, and curiously, Arabia appears twice, once alone and once paired with Syria.
