Aqua Viva
Acquaviva
Listen to the story
On the northern slope of Mount Soracte, near Falerii, the village of Acquaviva still keeps the name of Aqua Viva, and so did a spring, a church and an inn there. The name, 'living water', points to a fresh spring, and a pilgrim's route from Bordeaux lists it as a place to change horses. On the map the drawing looks unfinished: read by some as a storehouse, it was probably meant as the sign for a bathing place. Its figure to Narnia, seven miles, falls far short of the twenty-four the Roman registers of routes give, so a station or two seem to have dropped out.
