Aquas Apollinaris
Bagni di Stigliano
Listen to the story
Aquas Apollinaris, the waters of Apollo, the god of healing, are usually placed at the Bagni di Stigliano in Lazio. Their fame, though, clings to Vicarello on Lake Bracciano, where in 1852 the hot spring yielded the famous silver cups and other precious offerings to Apollo and further gods. Tempting as that find is, the distances and directions in the Roman registers of routes rule Vicarello out. On the map the road runs right past the little bath building without touching it.
