Aquas Passaris

Bagni di Viterbo [4] · Bagni Giasinelli, 7 km. nördlich von Viterbo [2]

Listen to the story

Aquas Passaris were hot springs on the Via Cassia near Viterbo, which the Roman poet Martial counted among the steaming baths of Etruria; remains of the baths survive at the Bagni di Viterbo. An inscription found nearby tells how a wealthy Roman, Mummius Niger Valerius Vegetus, piped his own spring water for miles to his villa at these waters. Close by bubbles the Bulicame, a hot spring the poet Lucretius already knew. The map gives the place the small courtyard building it uses for spas.
