City
Alexandria Bucefalos
Jalilpur? (Barrington)
Listen to the story
Alexandria Bucefalos was founded by Alexander the Great on the banks of the Hydaspes, the river now called the Jhelum, at the site of his battle against the Indian king Porus. He named it after his beloved warhorse Bucephalus, which is said to have died here of old age. The city was probably near Jalalpur in Pakistan, though its exact site is disputed. The map gives it the usual pair of towers, but links it by road through Spatura and Tazora, a route scholars consider geographically impossible.
