Temple
Ad Dianam
nahe Babië (Babjë)
Listen to the story
On a hill by the village of Babjë in Albania, on the northern slopes of the Polis mountains, the remains of a small Roman mutatio, a station for changing horses, were found in 1972. This is where Ad Dianam is placed, a mountain stop on the Via Egnatia. The map gives it an unusual drawing, a temple with a round black window in its gable. Together with the name, 'at Diana's', it points to a sanctuary of Diana of Candavia, a goddess known from an inscription found at Doclea in Montenegro.
