Temple
Ad Dianam
bei Igoumenitsa?
Listen to the story
At Ad Dianam the road line takes an extra zigzag just to make room for a little temple, whose left wall is slanted to fit the bend, a playful touch that echoes the wavy coast of Epirus. The name means 'at Diana's', after a much-visited sanctuary of the goddess of the moon. Where it stood is disputed. Near Igoumenitsa in Greece, graves of the imperial period and traces of a late Roman fort have been found; others prefer a hill by the Kalamas river, where a tile fragment seems to bear a Greek form of Diana's name.
