Ad Aquas

el-Hamma

Listen to the story

At El Hamma near Gabès in Tunisia, hot sulphur springs still feed the baths the Romans knew as Ad Aquas, 'at the waters', also called the waters of Tacape. Unusually, the map spells out the stretch to Tacape as a whole Latin phrase: from the waters to Tacapa, sixteen miles. On the other side, nineteen miles lead to Silesua.
