Putea Nigra, the black wells, lies thirteen Roman miles back from this unnamed stop on the road to Macomades Selorum. The Ravenna list, which calls that next town Macumades Maiores, the greater Macomades, names the two neighbours side by side, while the Roman register of routes knows only Macomades, as Macomades on the Syrtis. The step in the road line may have been drawn just to make the layout work.
