River
Torrens
Listen to the story
Torrens is simply the Latin word for a torrent, a wild mountain stream that swells into a rushing flood in the rainy season and later dries up again, much like a North African wadi. The map places it on the coast of the Great Syrtis and draws it with two mouths. Its identity is disputed: it may be the Wadi Tammet, once called the most important river on the Great Syrtis, or two separate streams, one reaching the sea near Macomades, the other near Ad Palmam. Otherwise only a list of places compiled in Ravenna names it.
