Portus Pedie

Listen to the story

Portus Pedie, a harbour name, is written on the sea itself, with no drawing beside it. On the map it sits just above Turris Caesaris on the Italian coast near Gnatia, and older research tied it to that shore, probably as the copyist intended. Yet most of the water names along this stretch clearly belong to the Dalmatian coast opposite, so the label may once have been meant to sit a little higher, beside the station of Pardua.
