Portus Turris

Listen to the story

Portus Turris has no secure modern location: the harbour name sits in the sea on the Tabula, between the coasts of Italy and Dalmatia, without any picture. Its Latin simply means the harbour of the tower. The copyist evidently tied it to Turris Caesaris on the Italian shore just beside it, yet it may have been meant for the Dalmatian coast, near Ad Turres, where most of the neighbouring water features belong.
