Listen to the story
The Naburni were a people at the sources of the Po, and they are generally identified with the community the Roman writer Pliny called the Forovibienses. In their land the young river, after running underground for a stretch, comes back to the surface below Monte Viso. Their town was Forum Vibii Caburrum, today Cavour, about fifty kilometres from Turin, and inscriptions show it was a self-governing Roman municipality. Its people, the Caburriates, were a Ligurian tribe subdued by the consul Fulvius Flaccus in 179 BC.
