Island

Insula Helru

Listen to the story

A small island drawn just below the mouths of the Danube carries the name Insula Helru, though the map itself preserves only a fragment of it. The abbreviation for island sits at its upper left and a single letter H at its upper right; the rest has faded beyond recovery. The full reading comes from the printed edition of 1598, while the edition of 1753 could already make out only part of the word.
