River

Fluvius Nigrinum

Listen to the story

The label for the river Fluvius Nigrinum sits not at its source but beside its mouth, the point where anyone reading the map from left to right first meets the stream, just as with the Oxus and a neighbouring river further along. It flows through the part of Asia that lies east of the Sea of Azov and north of the Taurus mountains. A list of places compiled in Ravenna knows it twice, once as Grinus and once as Nigrinus.
