River

Fl. N.N.

Listen to the story

This unnamed river, flumen without a name, flows across the Italian part of the map from a mountain that is itself left unnamed. The copyist drew only a blue line with no label, and an early study dismissed it as two small, insignificant streams. Its mouth lies near Luna, today Luni, so it may be the ancient Frigidus, now the Frigido, or the Aventia, now the Carrione. Scholars have even wondered whether the river names along this coast slipped one place along, which would change which stream this is.
