Bulinia

Region zwischen Šibenik und Trogir

Listen to the story

Bulinia, the land of the Bulini, an Illyrian people whose name comes from an Illyrian root bul-, covers the stretch of Croatian coast between Šibenik and Trogir. Its large capitals are split in two by a brown mountain range, with the syllable BU on one side and LINIA on the other. The region's name survives only on this map, though Greek writers and the Roman writer Pliny knew the people. Ancient sources placed them differently, and the map follows a Greek geographical poem of about 135 BC, setting Bulinia between Liburnia and Dalmatia, nearer Dalmatia.
