Mountain

mountain, no. 54

? Šar planina

Listen to the story

This nameless range is probably the Scardus of ancient writers, the Šar mountains, which closed off Macedonia to the north, with the Dardanians on one side and Illyricum on the other. The Greek historian Polybius, the first to mention it, calls it hard to cross, and it played a part in the third war between Rome and Macedonia. The real range is much larger than the small symbol on the map, which also leaves out the White Drin that Ptolemy has rising here.
