Listen to the story
Mediolanum is Milan, a city founded by the Celtic Insubres and later a residence of Roman emperors, where Constantine and Licinius agreed in AD 313 to tolerate Christianity. Yet the Tabula gives it only the modest pair of towers used for ordinary towns, not the grand walled city drawn for imperial seats such as Antioch. Trier fares no better, which suggests the map was simply never brought up to date. The roads to Pavia and Bergamo are missing as well. For a pilgrim's route from Bordeaux, this city was the final destination.
