Gedalusium
S Muslubium (Barrington)
Listen to the story
Gedalusium is the name of a people of eastern Mauretania Caesariensis, set on the map east of the lower Soummam river and south of Muslubium, in what is now Algeria. The form may be an old genitive plural, meaning 'of the Gedalusii', though some read Gebalusium instead. No ancient writer names the tribe, so scholars have tried to match it with peoples in the geographer Ptolemy: the Coedamusii, whom he places further south by the Ampsaga river, or the Galadousii, whom he puts at the far western edge of the province, perhaps confusing its western and eastern ends.
