River
Fluvius Hadra
Larda
Listen to the story
Fluvius Hadra is usually identified with the Arda, a stream that flows past Fiorenzuola into the Po. On the map the river rises in the Apennines, makes two bends and crosses the road between Iria and Comeli magus, today Voghera and Broni, before joining the Po. The Arda lies far from that stretch, so the map is often charged with misplacing it. Later research proposes instead the modest Coppa, which flows through Casteggio, ancient Clastidium, scene of a famous battle in 222 BC, and may have marked the boundary between two Roman regions of Italy.
