Eburobriga
Avrolles
Listen to the story
Eburobriga stood on the Roman road from Troyes to Auxerre, and it is identified with Avrolles, a village near Saint-Florentin on the river Armançon in France. The location was long debated as the course of that road was reconstructed, and Avrolles won out over nearby Brienon. A Roman register of routes records the town as Eburobrica, and its name is counted among those certainly in use by the time of Augustus. The map gives it a pair of towers, but scholars suspect the drawing slipped here by mistake and really belongs to Auxerre or perhaps to Sens.
