River
Ad Flumen Tigrim
Cizre
Listen to the story
Ad Flumen Tigrim simply means "at the river Tigris", a road station at the point where travellers crossed the great river, near modern Cizre in south-eastern Turkey. The crossing probably lay close to where the Khabur flows into the Tigris. The map gives it no picture, only a name on the road line, with no distance from Sapham before it and ten Roman miles on to Vica. A list of places compiled in Ravenna seems to know the same spot as Tygrinopolis, the town on the Tigris.
