Naharre

Naharre is the Naarda of the geographer Ptolemy and the Nearda of the Jewish historian Josephus, a town on the Euphrates lived in mostly by Jews, who for a time even ran a small robber state of their own here. The Roman writer Pliny knew a town named Hipparenum on a canal called Narraga, which, he says, gave it its name. Older research looked for the place near Ras. The map sets it twenty-four Roman miles from Naharra and the same again from Monumenta Regum.
