Sea or bay

Lacus [N.N.

Listen to the story

Lacus, simply 'lake', marks a stretch of water in the map's Asian section, east of the Sea of Azov and north of the Taurus mountains. Its name is now lost, yet very faint strokes of a letter in the middle of the water, best seen on a photograph from 1976, suggest the copyist once wrote one there. Along its lower edge runs a separate note calling it a salt lake, where salt forms all by itself.
