Lake

Lacus Beberaci

Listen to the story

Lacus Beberaci, a lake in Mesopotamia, is known only from this map. It is taken to be the lake of Khatuniyah in north-eastern Syria, where a stone causeway leads to an island with ruins. For the stretch towards Thubida the map gives neither a figure nor a road line, and a continuation to the fortress town of Singara may have dropped out as well, though nothing is marked.
