City
Hadrianopolis
Driana (Barrington)
Listen to the story
Hadrianopolis, the city of Hadrian, was a foundation named after the emperor on the coast of Cyrenaica, and its remains lie at Driana in Libya. The map marks it with the usual pair of towers, set on the coastal road twenty-five Roman miles from Berenice and twenty-eight from the colony of Tauchira. A Roman register of routes knows it simply as Adriane, and it also appears in a list of places compiled in Ravenna. The site may have been settled already in Hellenistic times.
