Sea or bay

Listen to the story

In the open sea beside Cyprus, just below and to the right of the final letter of the island's name, faint traces of a letter survive, as if a name had once been marked here. Whatever it said can no longer be recovered. Scholars even doubt that a separate name ever stood in this spot: the stray letter may simply belong to the label of the Phoenician and Syrian Sea.
